Finally! Fall…
The finally(!) fall menu is up. That’s good. Keep your eyes open more new developments and shop hours.
Took some time off to reorganize, prioritize, and basically take care of me. Nothing teaches you the importance of your health and well being quite like forty something!

Baking is more than food.
…what we call bread.
Baking is food. Good baking is, that is. But good baking is more than food. A well baked bread, cookie, or pie, presented with humble pride and shared with generosity is one of life’s most divine pleasures. Along the same lines of delight are pulling the first radish from the ground as spring moves into full swing, fresh squeezed and over priced lemonade served in a styrofoam cup from an ambitious 8 year old on a sunny afternoon, and gathering the first eggs from a hand raised pullet. Food is more than food. Food is life, energy, and promise.
Recently, my friend and I planted wheat. On a whim, we tossed some wheat kernels into the ground and now, as spring advances, and the wheat is maturing, the significance of bread as life has come full circle. Being a baker, buying flour off the shelf at the market, I have taken for granted the long ages of time required to bring the power of the wheat seed to my own table. Men and women dedicated to preserving life for their own home, community, and the road devoted long hours to figuring out what we call bread. This is life. The forward working, energy sharing, thought provoking, caring for one another effort that can not be bought in a fast food line, microwaved in cellphane, or instanted in any way.
To continue baking, now that I have grown wheat, and while I anxiously await the tiny harvest, reminds me that each good thing I produce for you is a product of the life and effort of many more. While I contemplate how to maximize my wheat growing experience and let my baker brain meditate on the effects of seed to table life cycle, my thoughts come down to this simple truth: baking is food. Food is life. Life is good.
Baking on,
